2026 PIT Count | Okaloosa & Walton Counties
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual one-night snapshot of people experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness across the Okaloosa Walton Continuum of Care. The count helps us better understand homelessness in our community, particularly among people experiencing unsheltered homelessness, and informs local planning and resource allocation.
Because the PIT represents a single night and uses HUD’s definition of homelessness, it does not capture everyone who experiences homelessness or housing instability during the year.
On January 29, 2026, 355 people were counted as experiencing homelessness across the Okaloosa Walton Continuum of Care.

The 2026 PIT Count shows encouraging movement in several key measures.

Compared with 2025, fewer people were counted experiencing homelessness overall in 2026, with particularly notable decreases in unsheltered and chronic homelessness.
These trends are encouraging. HHA’s full 2026 Housing Needs Assessment and Analysis, expected this fall, will provide additional context by examining PIT data alongside housing inventory, system performance, and local housing conditions.
